The wet fiber mulch used for hydro seeding helps keep the seed moist. Plus, it helps the grass seed bond to the soil at the beginning of the germination process. It also protects the new born grass plants from too much sunlight, wind and erosion. As the grass begins to grow, the fiber mulch slowly decomposes adding nutrients to the soil.

As with any new lawn installation method, hydro seeding has advantages and disadvantages when compared to other methods such as conventional seeding or sod installation.

Disadvantages of Hydro Seeding

• The variety of available grasses or fertilizers is less than conventional seeding. This is also true when using sod for a new lawn.
• When temperatures are extremely hot and there is little rain, hydro seeded grass seed could fail to germinate even with proper watering.
